Practice and School [PUSCH]
PUSCH is a secondary school project funded by the State of Hesse and the European Social Fund. The program enables students without a school leaving certificate to obtain a lower secondary school certificate through targeted, individualized support. A greater focus on practical experience also strengthens students' training skills, facilitating their transition into the world of work.
Target group
- Pupils with significant learning and performance deficits
- Young people with special needs in the context of inclusion
- Pupils of non-German native language after participating in an intensive class
Goals
- Obtaining a school leaving certificate
- Increasing training and employment skills
Content & Services
The goal is to support young people in achieving vocational qualifications and obtaining their secondary school certificate through vocational training measures and competency-oriented general education and practical subject-specific instruction. A high practical component of the project ensures that students develop a professional interest and experience their own skills and abilities. The practical component of PUSCH is a great opportunity for all students to try out new things, gain self-effective, work-related experience in practice, and gain career guidance. Furthermore, with the help of socio-educational support, the young people's individual potential and their social skills are to be promoted. The PUSCH coach offers additional counseling services, for example, for individual problem situations. A PUSCH coach is available for each PUSCH class to provide socio-educational and career-orientation support as well as to provide individual support to students.
In collaboration with class teachers, social-educational activities and career-orientation projects are also conducted. Joint discussions with parents also serve to support the young people in choosing their vocational training and planning their lives.
Duration & Course
PUSCH classes can be established in the Hauptschule (lower secondary school) curriculum as a one-year or two-year program. A parallel regular program must always be available at the school. At integrated comprehensive schools, a pedagogical unit consisting of a preparatory year in grade 8 followed by a final-year PUSCH class in grade 9 can be established. The integrated regular class is considered the standard program.
