Vocational German language courses [DeuFöV]

A language learning program for people with a migration background who want to improve their chances on the German job market.

Target group

The course is aimed at people with a migration background [immigrants, asylum seekers from countries with a high protection rate, EU citizens, Germans with a migration background].

Prerequisites for participation are completion of an integration course or at least language level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages [CEFR]. Proof of language proficiency can be provided by a certificate from the last six months or by passing an entrance test at the BWHW.

Goals

Depending on language skills and needs, there are basic and special modules, each of which concludes with a certificate examination confirming the language level achieved.

The BWHW currently offers the following special modules: A2 to B1; B1 to B2 and B2 to C1.

Content & Services

  • Teaching German skills for professional use [vocabulary, phrases, grammar]
  • Understanding and writing different types of texts [letters, emails, reports, non-fiction texts, etc.]
  • Preparation for working life and entry into the job market [conducting interviews, reading employment contracts, etc.]

Duration & Course

The courses consist of 400/500 teaching units (UE) of 45 minutes each. Depending on the location, they can be conducted full-time (4-5 teaching units per day) or part-time.

Financial support

Funding is subject to reliable course attendance. If you are interested in participating, contact your placement officer at the Employment Agency or Job Center. There, you will receive a certificate of eligibility to participate in a module that suits you. If you are already employed or in training, registration is handled directly through the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees [deufoe.koeln@bamf.bund.de].
