Vocational Language Support Plus [BQS+]
BQS+ alongside the project “Introduction to Education and Work” funded by the ESF and the HMSI
Target audience
The target group consists of disadvantaged young people who need support during the transition from school to work and additional language support. In addition to vocational training and basic skills development, the young people receive socio-educational support and are actively assisted within the network in resolving challenges and conflicts.
Goals
The BQS+ funding has been carried out since November 2023 in combination with the basic project “Introduction to training and work” on behalf of the municipal district job center Fulda.
The overarching goal of the basic project "Introduction to Education and Work" is to prepare young people for education and entry into the labor market.
To support our participants in their subject-specific and language learning, we follow the concept of language-sensitive subject teaching – that is, the conscious use of the German language in teaching and learning within the respective subject. Furthermore, a holistic approach to vocational language support is important to us, in which learning scenarios and close collaboration between language and subject teachers play central roles.
In addition to language-sensitive subject-specific instruction, targeted, job-related language training is offered, conducted by qualified language teachers. These lessons focus on developing job-specific language skills necessary for successful integration into vocational training and the job market. Learning scenarios geared towards professional language are used, enabling participants to familiarize themselves with the specialized terminology and communication requirements of their respective professional fields.
Content & Services
The ongoing group program within the basic project "Introduction to Vocational Training and Employment," commissioned by the KJC Fulda, is regularly implemented for two groups. Group assignments are made based on the individual needs of the participants. One of the groups will receive the accompanying German language support program BQS+. The instruction is action-oriented. Maximum flexibility and a focus on the individual circumstances and situations of the participants are equally essential when selecting course content. Participants receive 20 hours of training in academic and vocational fundamentals. Within these training units, 6 hours per week of job-related language support are implemented as a tandem approach. This means that, in addition to the teacher or trainer, the German language support specialist participates in the training concurrently and, through the methodological and didactic approaches of BQS+, ensures better understanding and confident application of the respective training content in practice. Furthermore, 10 hours per week are allocated for language support instruction and 4 hours for supplementary units.
