Basic education @ Darmstadt
The BWHW offers adults in Darmstadt help with reading, writing, and arithmetic. Our basic education program is free and also includes media courses where the use of smartphones, tablets, and computers is explained and practiced. The participants' prior knowledge and needs are the focus and determine the learning content.
The courses are offered at the BWHW in Rheinstraße (Dugena House) and in several city districts.
Target audience
Our program is aimed at all adults living in Darmstadt. Anyone who wants to improve their skills in German, math, or digital media is welcome.
Goals
- Reaching functionally illiterate people in the workplace
- Improve employability and qualification skills
- Establish contact with job seekers
- Promoting (and enabling) participation in society, culture and the world of work
- Networking with multipliers from the world of work and public authorities
- Establish learning opportunities close to home in the city districts.
Content and services
The lessons, conducted in small groups, are free for learners. In addition to German courses, the program includes math and digital learning. The media courses teach basic skills in using smartphones, tablets, and computers.
The wishes and interests of our participants are our top priority. We work with the learners to determine the specific topics of our courses, drawing on their professional, family, and everyday lives. This allows us to offer an individualized learning program tailored to the participants' specific circumstances.

The scope and times of the course will be discussed with the participants at the start of the course.
Entry into the courses is possible at any time after an initial consultation.
